The tomb of Saint Philomena, found in 1802, first brought this once-obscure saint to public attention. She is the patron saint of children, youth, babies, infants, priests, lost causes, sterility, and virgins. However, this saint has now been disavowed because examination of the tomb and its contents showed no evidence of martyrdom.

Her feast day was discontinued in 1961 and her shrine was officially dismantled. However, there are some who continue to venerate her to this day.
